So here is a break from the world of food. Check out this video I made about intramural sports at Stony Brook University!

Cookies!!!

Everyone loves a good cookie…here are my top three favorite cookies!

1) Sugar Cookies- I can’t get enough sugar cookies. They are amazing. They melt in your mouth and make me smile no matter what. Here is a good recipe for sugar cookies!

2) Chocolate Chip-  A classic. Who doesn’t want a good old fashioned chocolate chip cookie? Exactly. Serve them warm and with milk and you are good to go. Here is a recipe.

3) Snickerdoodles- I don’t know why this isn’t as popular as other cookies but it is amazing. I am also very upset I didn’t hear of it until I was 19. Try one!

Pizza.com is everything that you need to know about pizza. While checking out the site I found this video parody about the show 24. Anyone who has ever seen this show knows that Jack Bauer is pretty hardcore. The video shows what it would be like if Bauer were a pizza delivery boy instead of a CTU (Central Terrorism Unit) agent set to protect the President of the United States and the country. Check out the video!

Typical Eats Half Way Around The World

In a typical day Americans eat three meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner. We start out with eggs, cereals, or pancakes, move onto sandwhiches and salads, and finish the day off with a usual meat and veggie combo. Have you ever given much thought to how they do this half way around the world? In China for example…

Chinese food is completely different, and it is nothing like the Americanized chinese food you find here.

Breakfast:  Congee is the typical Chinese breakfast. This rice-based dish can be equated to American porridge. While the congee is similar enough, it is often spiced with chicken, meat and mushrooms. Many Americans probably wouldn’t try it.

Lunch: Lunch is huge. The Chinese eat a lot at lunch to keep going. The food consists of a rice dish, pasta-like dish, meat and vegetables.

Dinner: Dinner is the same as lunch but on a much smaller scale.

Fast Food

There are thousands of fast food restaurants in the United States. Every night, hoards of Americans flock to these quick-eats to satisfy their hunger and sometimes, their taste buds.

Nathan’s – My personal favorite. Nathan’s Famous hot dogs was founded in Coney Island, New York in 1916. Their delicious hot dogs and french fries have been drawing patrons ever since. According to the official website,  ”In the over 90 years that have passed since opening day, Nathan’s has gained worldwide recognition for the unequaled quality and taste of its product. Today, Nathan’s has gained reputation for being among the highest quality hot dogs in the world.”

Although the menu has expanded to include things like burgers and chicken, the classics still reign supreme. To top it all off, every year this fast food joint hosts one of the most eminent food eating contests in the world. The world famous hot dog contest is televised and draws contestants from all over the world!

Burger King - This chain is the second largest fast food hamburger chain in the world with more then 11,200 restaurants in the world. The first Burger King opened it’s doors in 1954. The whopper is the signature sand which of the establishment and you are guaranteed to “Always have it your way.”

McDonalds – Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions all on a sesame seed bun…a.k.a.. the Big Mac. This monstrous burger was a marketing dream. The fast food chain skyrocketed to the top of the charts with its classic fries, dollar menu and lovable characters like Ronald McDonald.

Also notable are the Ronald McDonald Charities which donate money to sick children worldwide and provide places for parents of sick children to stay while hospitalized.

  • The strawberry was considered poisonous in Argentina until the mid-1800′s.
  • Many Lepidopterans (butterflies, moths, and skinners) are known to feed on strawberry plants.

Stony Brook Journalism Majors To Travel to Beijing, China

This summer the Stony Brook University Journalism program is sending 15 of their students to Beijing, China. The students are going to travel the Fabled Silk Road and report what they see. The journalism students will be working in conjunction with Tsinghua University. Professor Charles Haddad, the trip coordinator, is expecting this trip to be an amazing experience for the students involved. Check out a video about the trip.

Domino’s Pizza Videos Are Disgusting.

Just in case you couldn’t come up with enough reasons to shy away from fast food, two employees at a Domino’s Pizza in North Carolina thought they would help. The two employees, referred to as “Michael” and “Kristy” are shown in these videos doing some truely disgusting things to the pizza’s that they were working on.

Throughout the videos the at the time employees were shown doing everything from passing gas on toppings to shoving cheese up their noses. That is disgusting. Why do people feel the need to do sick, disgusting and twisted things, especially while a video camera is on? How stupid do you have to be?

“Michael” and “Kristy”, who have both been fired from the Domino’s and are now facing the possibility of legal action, both claim that none of the tainted food products ever went out to any customers. Even with the notion that nobody ate these pizza’s, it is still enough to turn their stomach. Did these two never stop to think that the saying “Don’t mess with the people who handle your food” could go the other way. “Don’t mess with my food.” They had to know that this could turn out badly. There was always a chance that a customer would find out and attack one of the employees.

My suggestion, lay off the fast food for a while, at least until your stomach stops turning. As for “Michael” and “Kristy”, never work with food again.
